Call before you burn – A Permit to Kindle Fire is required for open burning, including bonfires. To obtain a permit, call Town Forest Fire Warden Brenda Field at 802-889-5548 or Deputy Town Forest Fire Warden John Durkee at 802-889-3408. Permits can be issued over the phone. If you reach voicemail, leave a message clearly stating your name and callback number.
To burn structure debris, construction, demolition or commercial waste, an additional permit is required through Vermont’s Air Quality and Climate Division.
A permit is not required for a campfire on private property or in a public recreational area if the fire is three feet in diameter or smaller and is either: (1) built in a stone arch, outdoor fireplace, or existing fire ring or (2) located at least 200 feet from any forestland or field containing dry grass or other flammable plant material connected to forestland. Contact the Town Forest Fire Wardens with questions.
