Transfer Station

The Tunbridge Transfer Station is located at 64 Recreation Road, which is the first left off of the Strafford Road as you are coming up the hill from Route 110.

The Transfer Station is for residential use.


Transfer Station Policies


Hours

Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesdays, 4 to 7 p.m.
The Transfer Station is closed during the Tunbridge Fair.


Payment

Trash disposal tickets can be purchased via the following:

IN-PERSON

  • Town Clerk’s office, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Tunbridge Public Library, 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays (checks only).
  • North Tunbridge Store during business hours.
  • Tunbridge General Store during business hours.

BY MAIL

  • Leave check payment and your return address at the Town Office building’s drop box. The box is located to the left of the entrance to the town office building.
  • Follow this link to order online. The cost in the cart reflects the face value of the ticket plus the postage and credit card fees that the town has to pay.

Tickets will be mailed to you. Please plan ahead.


Please familiarize yourself with all acceptable and unacceptable materials listed below prior to visiting.

Allowed at this location

  • Trash (such as household waste) $1.00 for bathroom size bags, $2.00 for kitchen size bags, $3.00 for contractor size bags
  • Recycling (see below) Free
  • Yard Waste (such as brush, leaves, and lawn clippings) Free
  • Food Scraps (see below) Free
  • Bulky Items (such as furniture, appliances, mattresses) $10.00 per item
  • Tires: car tires $2.00 each, truck or tractor tires $10.00 each

Not allowed at this location

  • Hazardous Waste (such as chemicals, paint, cleaning fluids)
  • Universal Waste (such as batteries, ballasts, light bulbs)
  • Electronic Waste (such as TVs, monitors, computers, printers, stereos)
  • Construction & Demolition Debris (such as drywall, metal, shingles, carpet, clean wood, concrete)

We suggest using Eco Depot in Berlin
or the Royalton Transfer station


Recycling and compost

Recycling is mandatory in Vermont. At our zero-sort transfer station, we accept at no charge:

  • Glass – all colors
  • Tin, steel and aluminum cans
  • Foil and pie plates
  • Aerosol cans
  • Plastics #1-#7
  • Newspaper
  • Magazines, catalogs and paperbacks
  • White and colored office paper
  • Paper mail and envelopes
  • Brown and colored paper bags
  • Boxboard
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Phone Books

Compost that is accepted via Green Mountain Compost at no charge:

  • Food scraps of any kind: fruits, vegetables, grains, bread, dairy, oils, fats, meats, poultry, fish, bones, eggshells, etc.
  • Certified compostable bags used for lining food scrap containers
  • Coffee filters & tea bags (but not “plastic” tea bags)
  • Newspaper and untreated paper bags used to line food scrap containers
  • Paper towels, napkins, facial tissues – only if they DO NOT contain body fluids or chemicals of any kind
  • Wooden or bamboo stirrers, toothpicks (no plastic frills) chopsticks
  • Uncoated paper leaf bags

Cups, plates, utensils, or foodware of any kind is not allowed, even if it is certified compostable.


The Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District provides programs and services to 19 member municipalities related to proper management of solid waste. It does not operate trash hauling services, but does license waste haulers and hold special collection events, and provides information about how to find a trash hauler or transfer station on its website, cvswmd.org.
